- The Act restricts access to certain types of government-held information and limits journalists’ access to official documents deemed “classified.” As such, access to information remains a pressing legislative gap in Mauritius.

- Articles 96 to 101 of the Constitution outline the duties and responsibilities of the Ombudsman in the procurement of information necessary for the public interest and deploying investigations to ensure information is disclosed.
Programs and Policies
- The Financial Services Commission (FSC) issued Guidance Notes on Whistleblowing to clarify its expectations regarding implementation of section 45A of the Financial Services Act.
- In 2022, The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) has implemented a Whistleblowing Policy for use by all its employees, stakeholders and members of the public.
- In 2025, on whistleblowing day, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Mauritius provided guidance on the framework for disclosures under the Financial Crimes Commission Act and the Declaration of Assets Act.
Law proposals
In 2023, the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) requested that the government establish a robust whistleblower protection framework. Since then; no political will has set forth any laws protecting whistleblowers.
